Add a Comment Policy Message to Your WordPress Website Comment Form

I will try anything to get rid of spam comments on my website and having a comment policy message on your website is a good idea.

Just a simple message just above the comment form does wonders. Here is the example I used.

Website comment policy:
**Please be aware that all comments made are moderated and SPAM will not be published.
**Comments must relate to the post topic. This website is here to help people, not for your advertising purposes.

I placed this in the comment.php.

Watch this video tutorial to see how I embedded this message into the php code of my WordPress website.

CODE I USED

<div>

<b>Comment Policy in force from 01 Nov 2010</b>

**Please be aware that all comments made are moderated and <b><i>SPAM will not be published</i></b>.
**Comments must relate to the post topic. This website is here to help people, not for your advertising purposes.

</div>

Does a comment policy message work?

In a nutshell, yes. Besides all the monster spam protection plugins, small amounts of spam commenters were getting through. This way it makes them think twice before even bothering to put a comment that will only get deleted in the long run.

    hi Mitz,
    a very much informative post. Everyone who is blogging should read it. But, while I tried to put the code mentioned there, I had a problem in putting a space in between the two consecutive lines. It would be very nice of you if you can please tell me what should I do to put a space in between the two lines.

    I’m loving all of this juicy input, some of which I’ve shamelessly lifted from what you do. I’m about halfway done. I have used some of your suggestions but I found a code error that needs fixing under ‘Adding Comment Policy Text Before or After Comment Form’.

    You have placed the add filter within the function or otherwise it won’t get executed, it needs to be moved outside of the function.

    hmm great, we have to add this comm. policy to avoiding the spams in our comments although there is commluv system present and there is decrease in spams whether we use clicking the box system also. :-)

    Many would probably want to have this kind of comment policy message because spammers cannot be avoided but we can do something about it. Every website should protect and secure their good reputation.

    I think this can work since the person posting the spam will actually not want to post that comment knowing it is headed straight to the spam box. However, there some spammers who have known how to get through even the toughest security against spam.

When I changed to the Genesis Framework and the eleven40 Theme my page load score went from 58 to 79 instantly. This was without any optimization at all. The other thing about this framework and theme is that it was so simple to setup that I can highly recommend it to each and every person that visits this blog! Genesis is the smart choice for your WordPress website or blog.
