My niece has asked me to build an eCommerce website for her and I needed to find something non technical and well designed. I also needed something that was easy to add products to, and came across the Elegant Themes new Estore theme. Earlier I wrote an article about creating a store using another Elegant eCommerce theme, so they have more than just one to choose from. How lucky we are to just slap up an eCommerce store in minutes, at hardly any cost, and have it looking like a million dollar website too!
I personally am a big believer that the online world will almost certainly ruin most real-life businesses. In fact just recently FairFax Media announced 1900 layoffs (Australia’s largest news media company) to their workforce and clearly stated that are moving towards digital news. This is due to the sales of printed newspapers and the explosion of a digital revolution.
FairFax Media Announces 1900 Lay-offs
This was the first major sign in Australia that printed newspapers were on their way out. I have been preparing for this and started a local newspaper “online only” in my hometown approximately two years ago. At the time the locals questioned the viability of this newspaper website business model. Now I have people sending me the news to publish because they see that online news works.
I believe the same goes for retail outlets. Do you agree?
At the moment people are stating that they like shopping in real stores but the next generation does not! Take a good look at your kids. They are well versed in the art of buying online.
Nowadays a bricks and mortar business needs an online presence as digital technologies and the Web are impacting the industry in a major way. Who knows what will become of the real life retailer, but we must be prepared? Of course there are some things you just can’t buy online..
But if I had any type of retail store I would definitely be building an eCommerce website right now. It is no longer viable to sit in your shop and wait for a customer to enter. Now with the online world you can find your customer and waive your goods directly in front of them.
The times, they are a changing! Hmm I think I have heard that somewhere before?
So that’s why my Niece needs an eCommerce store.
How to Build an eCommerce store
All you need to do is build a WordPress website and simply install an eCommerce theme. Most themes that are setup to be stores, including the one we will look at below, integrate with various shopping carts so everything is very professional and easy to use.
If more businesses are forced to move towards on-line selling, at least it is not a difficult task. This definitely makes building a million dollar business well in reach for normal every day people.
Lets Look at the eStore WordPress Theme
We all know that most Elegant themes are very cool and professional looking, so there is nothing new here. I am a big fan of Elegant Themes and they always have something I need. When I needed a mobile theme, they had one, when I needed a review theme, a directory WordPress theme, they had one.. They are just there for me.
This eCommerce theme is no exception. First you will notice the Top menu standing out but not taking any glory away form the actual products.
The front page shows a fantastic feature box that flips through your top products, then a variety of products are also shown below. I love the design, as it is not to over the top with color, but lets the products stand out more. I was even tempted to buy something from the eStore Demo Site.
The menu at the top is two tiered and the bottom section also features a drop down menu. All very elegant of course.
Below is the bottom half of the front page. Another smaller feature product slider, more products, and a good old sidebar.
eCommerce Website Features
Of course there are many cool features included with this WordPress Theme but I had to narrow down my choices here.
- Big buttons to make it easier to buy with.
- Elegant design.
- Multiple image uploads for one product.
- Professional online store.
- Inbuilt related products with thumbnails.
- Short codes to add cool buttons, boxes, and content boxes.
What a lovely theme. I hope my niece likes it.
