Whenever we do keyword research, we tend target one keyword with laser focus and neglect other SEO techniques.  Some of us may look at search volume for LSI (related) keywords and consider the traffic we may get from them as well, but on the whole, most marketers are usually concerned with the traffic from their targeted keyword.

If the chosen search phrase gets 1,000 monthly searches, you can expect to get around 400-500 of those clicks each month in the #1 spot.  However, you will get a lot more traffic than that from the SERPs (search engine results pages), not to mention whatever backlinking tactics you used to get there.

Subtle SEO Techniques for Underground Traffic

You might be able to find out what some of these terms are by checking your ranking for some LSI terms.  However, a large portion of your organic traffic will always come from obscure queries that get searched less than 40 times a month.  This is low hanging fruit, like REALLY low hanging fruit.  So how do you find these terms?

You use a WordPress plugin called “SEO Search Terms 2”.  This plugin automatically collects search terms that lead people to your site.  These are all search terms that someone entered into Google, and THEN clicked on your site in the SERPs.

One powerful feature is the option to automatically post these terms on your site and add them as tags.  Basically, you can have these terms added on your site’s pages and add a tiny bit of optimization towards a term that has basically no competition.  This will automatically get you more traffic from these obscure searches.  However, if you choose to have the keywords added on your site, change the title that appears above these terms.  This can easily be edited in the settings of the plugin and will ensure your site doesn’t carry any footprint that could link it with tons of other sites focusing on SEO (it could be a bad sign to Google – better safe than sorry

You can also use Google Analytics to find the long tail search terms people have used to find your page, however these results are not delivered directly into your blog.

The most important part and powerful part of this plugin is that you know people are searching for these terms.  Someone already searched for that term and clicked on your site.  There are likely more people searching for that same term each month that are clicking on other sites, so you may as well take it over and get those extra few visits each month.

While this plugin will help you find some solid LSI keywords, you are likely already aware of the major ones. What it really exposes is a long list of these super-long-tail keywords that you would never think to optimize for otherwise.  You might be thinking that such search terms are chump change – suit yourself.  You can very easily optimize for hundreds of keywords like this a month, with relatively little effort and start pulling in more visitors.

Optimize for Subtle SEO Techniques

Besides optimizing on-page we can also grab more visitors by building links for these terms.  However, this will be a big waste of time if we are not using a very efficient means of link building.  You don’t want to spend a lot of time ranking for a term that will only get you a couple new organic visitors.  Rather, you want to build links for tons of these terms in a short period of time.

The best method for doing this is creating social bookmarks.  You can create them for free with semi-automation with Social Marker, or full automation with Pixelpipe or OnlyWire (free version).  Just put the keyword in the description and title, and link back to the page that was getting the traffic for the term.  A couple quick social bookmark blasts a month like this will help you get more organic traffic and it will also expose more ultra-low competition keywords.

If you come across a long-tail keyword that gets a decent amount of search traffic per month, you can target it more aggressively.  A few blog comments with PR can be very effective to push your page up the SERPs, but if the term is more competitive then you can launch a more complete SEO campaign and engage in more thorough link building.

We get so wrapped up in our specific keywords and exact-match domain sites when picking a domain name, we forget that there isn’t a list of terms that people can choose from when searching with Google.  They can search for whatever they want, and they do!  A large percentage of all queries are unique and have basically NO competition.  This is your fruit for the picking.

I hope this short SEO course  on grabbing ultra-low competition keywords will help you bring in tons of underground traffic to your site.

Now days there is a plugin for everything, but the EasyAzon Amazon WordPress Plugin is one of those must have plugins for the serious money maker.

Chris Guthrie sent me his new Amazon plugin to review, from a recommendation from Andy Bailey at Comment luv, however I do not take the time to review everything that comes my way. A new plugin has to be pretty innovative now days because it is usually a case of “been there and done that”, when it comes to plugin creation. This particular plugin caught my eye though.

I had heard about Chris Guthrie and investigated some of his methods to making money. What he writes about is all very similar to what I actually do so I know the guy is a genuinely knows how to make money online. He shares some very valuable information with his readers and this alone forced me to install this WordPress plugin to test.

Why bother with an Amazon Affiliate plugin?

I know there are many free Amazon plugins out there and I have tried at least four. I will not mention them as they either turned out to be annoying, more work than they were worth, or just simply junk. EasyAzon is different and it actually has some features that I have been searching for in an Amazon Plugin.

Lets compare Amazon linking options:

1. You can use a link cloaker but I have noticed problems with this. Sometimes these links appear in Google webmaster tools and cause errors. It is something to do with Amazon.
2. You can manually search for a link, copy the affiliate code, then paste it into your blog. This takes up way too much time!

If you are already an Amazon affiliate and  make money online with Amazon then this plugin will earn you extra money. The first simple reason is that the GEO target feature will allow you to send the visitor to the right Amazon website where they will feel more comfortable buying.

This plugin will also save you time which is far more valuable than money.

How to use the EasyAzon Amazon Affiliate plugin?

1.  Go to a WordPress post you are editing.

2.  Choose a word you want to make into a link. Or simply click where you would like to insert your Amazon affiliate link.

3.  Go to the EasyAzon Amazon search section.

4.  Type in the keyword you are looking for. I like to copy the text first and paste it in here. See the screen shot below.

5.  Now you have three choices on what type of affiliate link you would like.

In this tutorial I am going to press the Insert text link option.

6.  After pressing to insert a text link you now can create your own Link text or use the text provided with the product.

7.  Press on Insert shortcode and your link will be created. See the screen shot below to see the link I created. Simple and neat. The anchor text is there in between the shortcode.

If you press on the Insert Info Block option you will see this box below. The product will change according to your choice.

The time that this plugin can save me is worth it’s weight in gold. Also the fact that it is GEO targeted and just makes adding Amazon affiliate links to a WordPress post or page so easy.

Will I keep this plugin installed on my WordPress website? Yes of course! I haven’t seen a better Amazon affiliate plugin than EazyAzon. Be sure to check it out for yourself!

This is just the same as recycling your posts, and they are still published with the same URL. The only difference is that when you go back to choose a post from your 10 latest posts, that article will appear. This is useful for when you find an article to comment on that do not have a recent post to suit that niche.

This is basically making the list of the 10 latest posts made to order.

How do you find Comment Luv enabled websites to comment on?

The best place to find CommentLuv enabled websites is to goes directly to the CommentLuv website where they have 40,000+ registered users. Here they are all on a platter for you. The CommentLuv website even has a search engine and the results show CommentLuv enabled blogs.

Another way is to read the comments on the commentLuv blog and visit websites that are related to your niche. Once you start doing this you will find more people commenting on more website and your investigation can go further and further.

Using commentLuv to gain website traffic

I like to choose blogs that look like they are relatively busy, or at least have a decent following. This way if the blog doesn’t prove to give you good link juice, it possibly could give you good traffic. CommentLuv leaves the entire title of your last post to tempt a potential website visitor to click on. I like to choose a related blog post to the one I am commenting on.

I am so thankful to Andy Bailey for developing this plug-in and it is a must have for every website you have. This plug-in has proven to encourage commenting on my websites and this is really what we all want. Conversations are encourage and cannot be avoided, benefits are clearly given to your readers, and we are all sharing a love.

Commenting with the WordPress CommentLuv plug-in on your own website

If you have CommentLuv installed on your own website you need to use it to your advantage. I realized that I was missing out on its great features by replying to comments within my WordPress dashboard. I finally woke up to the fact that if you approved the comments first, then went to the actual post and replied, this gave you a chance to use the CommentLuv plug-in yourself.

So let’s think about this? Why would I want to use the WordPress CommentLuv plug-in when I am commenting or replying on my own website? Well the simple reason is that I was trying to decrease my bounce rate. This is the percentage of people that leave after they have read a post. I wanted them to go on to read something else so therefore I went to my posts, commented, leaving the bait hoping that they would be interested and read another post.

Commenting more than once on a blog post?

You might be thinking that leaving a link about blogging on a post about blogging is the right thing to do, however what if that person was really interested in something else. It least you could give them a few choices.

There is no guarantee that leaving a related link will encourage the visitor to click and therefore it is in your best interest to show some variety when leaving a comment Luv link.

Did you know that you can use this WordPress commentluv plug-in with anyone’s website but the only downside is that you can only show their latest post and not get the choice of the 10 latest posts. So all you have to do is find a related article where you can comment using commentluv plug-in and add in the URL of the website that you did your guess post on. Therefore if you do have guest posts on someone’s website and it is the latest post published, then you have the opportunity to make a few comments and promote it. This only applies if you are the latest post so you have to be quick!

Give it a go, even though this is a sneaky little trick, it is very effective.

Let’s not forget to leave a decent comment

Installing this plug-in has not encouraged spam, but has encouraged in in-depth, interesting comments. People do not want to waste their time and desperately want their links to be approved on your website. I know most Webmasters are happy to approve comments that talk about the subject at hand and add value to the post.

Some Commentluv enabled blogs have the plugin installed but have made the actual links “nofollow”. ‘This seems all systematical and un-human to search for a blog or website in this manner, however I am a real person with valuable comments that will definitely enhance someones else post. When I find a WordPress website with all these factors included it can take me at lest 30 mins to compose a great comment. I appreciate the fact that they are going to give my links some benefits.

Sadly some people spam WordPress websites with stupid generic comments that have nothing to do with the subject at hand. These comments should just be deleted. In fact do not just delete them, press the spam link so they do not come back. People work hard on their websites and spammers come along trying to ad irrelevant comments. Are you kidding me?

Find dofollow “commentluv” blogs with high Page Rank internal pages?

Please note: You must have read How to search in Google for “dofollow” related blogs to comment on? and What is a “Do Follow” link and a “Nofollow” link? to continue as this is used in the first step.

1. Research and find blogs that are both “commentluv” and “dofollow” as shown in the articles above.

• This will show you how to search for a “commmentluv” blog using this search string intitle:outlook express “commentluv”
• Then you will need to install a free Firefox plugin called Search Status, and see if the links are “dofollow”.

See the screen shots below. Any link that is “nofollow” is highlighted.

2. Now we need to install another plugin to see the page ranks of the internal pages.

• You will need another Firefox plugin, SEOQuake. Enable the plugin. It should do it for you when you install it.

3. Once you have the second plugin installed, choose a website url that you know has “dofollow”. For example you serched for your keyword and commnetluv as shown above. You went to the website and saw that the comment links were not highlighted. Then you take note of that website main url so you can research further.

4. Now go to Google and search for site:url.com

In the example below I have used my website. So I typed in site:wordpress-websitebuilder.com

Then I pressed on the sort page rank tiny button and the highest page ranks were shown at the top.

Now from this research I see the homepage has a PR of 4 and an internal page has a page rank of 3. Therefore it would be beneficial to comment on the PR 3 page as there is usually no comments allowed on a homepage.

I am not advocating spam comments. These are blogs and websites that you can build a long term relationship with. Don’t blow it by writing some stupid meaningless comment because that is just a waste of a good dofollow blog comment. When you find dofollow blogs appreciate them and you will be rewarded. Can you handle 20 people subscribing to your email list everyday? Well this is what is happening to me after I installed Subscribers Magnet from Maxblogpress. Here is a screen shot below from one day. I installed the plugin and made my form in two minutes, then the emails just started flooding in. I haven’t even adjusted the settings yet or tweaked the form for top performance. I haven’t even put a pop over form in or a footer form. OMG…That is all I have to say.

You are probably thinking that this number will drop, but don’t forget that I have not even tweaked the form yet. I could change the position, colour, words, and so on.

My next question is “How I am going to manage that many subscribers?” Obviously this is what I wanted and now it is all happening. Keep in mind that this screen shot is only for one website and I have approximately 20 websites that have the same results…Yes it is crazy!

• WordPress.com Stats is a great tool that shows up in your dashboard and lets you know how many hits a particular page is getting. Nice to see stats right there in front of your face.. I am sure that there are other stats plugins out there…
• Keyword Link Plugin is pretty handy. This WordPress plugin can be set to create links to a url of your choice if a particular keyword is mentioned. So for example you can make an affiliate link to EBay…Every Time the word eBay shows up in your website it will be auto linked to what you set it to.
