How to search in Google for "dofollow" related blogs to comment on?
I am really into SEO and believe it or not blog commenting plays a big part in this. I have a certain SEO track that I follow for all my websites and have even been experimenting with dead websites, bringing them to the top of the search engines. Commenting on a blog is mainly used for SEO purposes, however it can also bring you targeted traffic. But you cannot just comment on any old blog or website.
Blogs to comment on for SEO purposes:
- A “Do Follow” blog or website. This is the number one factor for commenting on a website or blog unless you are commenting to get traffic and not link juice. See what is a “nofollow” link? and how to tell if a blog is “nofollow” or “dofollow”.
- A blog that accepts comments. ( Obviously)
- A blog or website that is related to your niche. ( Not so Obvious )
- A comment luv enabled blog. A top quality link back.
How to find a “dodollow” blog to comment on?
I search in google to find blogs and websites that will accept comments and are “dofollow”. Here are some ways to search for a “dofollow” blog.
Commentluv Blogs: If you look for blogs that have this plugin they are almost always dofollow. They let you comment and also place a link to your latest post on your blog. The following search string will find a keyword in the title of a post and find you blogs enable with commentluv. So for example if I wanted to search for blogs that had the keywords “outlook express” in the title I would put the following:
intitle:outlook express “commentluv”
How to tell if a link is “dofollow”?
Even when you find a blog or website you still need to confirm that it is indeed “nofollow” free. You can do this by installing a free Firefox plugin that will highlight the “nofollow” link. See how to show “nofollow” links.
Here are some more ideas to search for “dofollow” blogs:
intitle:computer tips “powered by wordpress”
intitle:computer tips “nofollow free”
Now please note…Even though a blog has a Nofollow free message or commentluv it still does not guarantee that its links are “do follow”.

Hey Mitz,
I have MozBar SEO Toolbar from SEOmoz installed on my browser that lets me see if a blog is dofollw before I make a comment but to be honest I will make a comment on a blog even if it is nofollow – reason being that even the nofollow links can be good and it’s great to have a mixture of both – also sometimes I just like to comment if I enjoyed the blog post
Cheers

Another simple on page search engine optimization technique you can use is to re-order your title tags. Do not use the exact same or very similar title tag for every single page on your website. Changing the order throughout the website just increases the likelihood your page will be picked up by the search engines.

Hi Mitz Thanks for sharing these tips on finding dofollow blogs.I have compiled a list of hundreds of blogs which are dofollow as I was trying to do backlinking for my website myself. But there is one problem. Most of these blogs have a high homepage PR and many blogs in my list are using CommentLove and keywordluv but to find blog posts with high PR is extremely difficult .Even the blogs which have a PR of 5 or 6 have very few posts which have the PR equal to homepage. And even if i find a post with a good PR of 4 or 5 there are already 100s of comments on that post which dilutes PR and renders the post useless.I’ve come across blog posts with a PR of 5,6 or 7 but sometimes they have more than 1000 comments.I’m wondering is there any linkjuice left for a lastcomer like me.Somewhere I’ve read that Google crawls first 150 links on a page and the rest of the outgoing links are useless or effectively nofollow.Any ideas on how to find blog post with high PR and few number of comments ?Or I’ve to do it manually?

I see a wide range of opinion on the value of NoFollow vs DoFollow. Well, obviously DoFollow is great, so I should probably say that the range of opinion is specifically regarding NoFollow. Some say that it provides very link juice at all (if any), to others saying it is still a really great link to have (if high PR), and that it is essential to mix DoFollow & NoFollow in your linking strategies. Confused. What do you think?

Not all CommentLuv users are DoFollow, but they are made aware of the option (with multiple settings for giving comments DoFollow status). Based on my experience and a gut feeling, I suspect that the vast majority of CommentLuv blogs have some criterion (such as a number of posts) to startr sharing the love. WordPress, on the other hand, defaults to NoFollow, and it takes a special plugin or (ugh) code to change that setting. I manually set my blog to DoFollow. Now I use CommentLuv to do it!

Very nice information about ‘dofollow’ and ‘nofollow’. I installed the SearchStatus plugin on Firefox and the ‘nofollow’ links are showing up with a pink background. I’m going to leave it turned on, so I can find sites that will give me linkage credit for reading and commenting on their blogs. I’m surprised sites just don’t use CAPTCHA instead to turn the spam comments away.
BTW, I’m new to CommentLuv, but what is it saying when it asks “and then @ your keywords”. To experiment, let me add three here: @dofollow @nofollow @SearchStatus

Toby You misunderstand.
What you should do is write your name like this: Toby Foote@Classroom antics
Then you will get the same thing as my name. I wrote: Danny@Pole chain saw
This way the anchor text to your link will be “Classroom antics”
Which is much better SEO-wize because if somebody wants to find something about “classroom antics” then they are more likely to write something like “classroom antics” but now you are setting yourself up to rank high in Google for “Toby Foote”.
I hope this cleared it up.

Its always a good idea to check if the links are really dofollow! I´ve seen quite some commentluv blogs using nofollow links!
I´m using the SEObook Firefox Plugin to do this job, but there are many others…..

Great stuff Mitz!!
I didn’t think of the commentluv searchstring yet.
These are some that I use:
inurl:forum
inurl:profile
intext:visitor messages
inurl:member
site:.edu inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “KEYWORD”
site:.gov inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “KEYWORD”
I always start by checking the links of my competition. Sometimes they have more sites so I can’t find all the links through checking one site, so I search for the names they use on the fora and blogs.
That’s how I find a lot of links with not much work. Just find someone who is already doing what you want to do (finding links) and check what he/she already found.
I hope this helps anyone.

Great search strings Danny!
You are a very valuable commenter.
I have used the edu and gov ones but never get my comment published…Have you had any luck?

Thanks Mitz :$
I’ve had success with the .edu and .gov but not much and never relevant.
Sometimes you find one that auto allows. But most of them are already spammed into another dimension.
But it’s a numbers game. Just keep trying and some of them will stick. But if it’s worth it, that’s hard to tell.

I have a post that outranks my homepage…I was wondering why so I checked the backlinks.. It turns out it has a .edu link that someone else made by using my page as a reference.
Danny Strampel
September 4, 2011 at 11:13 pm
There you go, haha. I do believe that there are worthless .edu links as well.
If it has no PR, many outgoing links. Then it’s probably not worth much.
But if you manage to get a PR5 .edu link, then that will probably be a big boost
That’s probably an advantage of using keywordLuv. If people can get a real dofollow link then they might build some extra links to the page that they put their link.
I do that all the time, try to give my link some extra juice

So are wordpress and moveable type blogs nofollow by default? Or does the blog owner have to change it to that?
mitz
July 26, 2011 at 9:07 pm
For WordPress you just get a dofollow plugin. Not sure about moveable type.

Great article. I am so glad I found you com ComLuv. I think ComLuv is a great resource for Internet Marketers looking to learn more about their niche and comment with others that are great contributors. I just hope that users don’t start spamming the system.
I have seen similar things happen with Twitter, Squidoo, and now Facebook. Terrible.

Very helpful information. I’m just learning SEO so this is very much helpful. I’ve somewhere about commentkahuna but haven’t tried it yet. Their add says it automatically searches for high PR blogs and the dofollow so the searching is much easier. Haven’t tried it though. Thanks a lot.

FF offers so much more than other browsers, especially to webmasters. Thousands of free plugins and add ons is a great reason to join FF.

Definately agree, also If you do website design you will notice that everything works better in either FF, Chrome, Safari etc. IE seems to want to do everything their own way and cares little about CSS it seems. Even IE9 which was meant to address alot of issues seems more out of date than FF was 2 years ago lol!

Hey, just stop…why you don’t have a little fait in google? of course FF is more complex but chrome is 3x faster than FF. And don’t forget, FF is more older than Chrome and is still not as fast as Chrome…just give it some time…and you’ll see that Chrome will be an excellent browser.
