Making money from content marketing is not a new concept but it feels like people have finally caught on to this amazing opportunity It really takes a while for people to see that the simple things you do are often the ones that get results.
What is content marketing?
I have no idea. I guess it is a way of marketing your content that has a distinct goal to an audience via other content. Does this make sense? You want to attract a visitor, lead them to your goal, and then hopefully convert them to a customer.
That goal in this case would be to make money from my content marketing strategy.
In this article I will show you a few tips on how to make money from your content.
Building Websites full of Content
To me content is an asset. You can make money by building up a huge website that is “sell-able” or you can make money by generating income from each article you post. I prefer to do both. I make money in the short term and long term.
Building websites that are full of great content is every webmasters dream but I do not believe that content is the only king. Actually making money from content can involve a whole lot more than just a great article.
You can create all the best content with the best converting goals on the internet but what good is it if no one sees it?
This is why we need to go out and promote each piece of content to the world! Again it sounds like content marketing.
Wait! But first we need to make sure our content is up to scratch so take a look at what I think is Quality content. After reading that article you might be a bit scared but creating content like that takes experience and knowledge. Remember the saying “practice makes perfect”?
So let us get to my one simple content marketing strategy….
Guest Posting to Make Money from Content
I bet you were deflated when you saw that guest posting was mentioned AGAIN?
People often look at guest posting the wrong way entirely because some webmasters often say “why should I publish content on someone else’s site when great content should be published my own site?”
Sorry this is a dead end attitude..
Also most web masters simply do not DO guest posting the right way.
Each piece of content I put out onto the internet is there for the world to see and somehow it leads back to me. I do not guest post for the sole purpose of attracting any old website traffic, I want highly targeted visitors to my site, therefore this process needs to be carried out in the right manor.
I have had some amazing results from guest posting. Once I made over $1000 from one guest post and scored hundreds of subscribers. When I saw those sales coming in I new that guest posting was an amazing content marketing strategy.
How I Get Paid For Every Guest Post I Write
No I am not a Freelance writer, I am a content marketer, a full time blogger, you get the picture. I do not sell my content for someone else to publish as their own, I give it to them for free, in exchange for some recognition. I effectively use that content to promote my main content, always with a purpose in mind.
Making Money From My Guest Posts
I wrote a guest post on the Comluv site about How I get paid for every guest post I write and shared some very interesting details. I basically showed a direct relation between my guest posting efforts and sales from one product I promoted on my site.
So here is the screenshot from the sales I made:
This is going to shock you!
I posted this article http://comluv.com/building-essential-blogging-relationships/ on the 2011/11/02 and made sales on the 3rd and 5th.
I posted this article http://comluv.com/10-white-hat-seo-link-building-strategies/ on the 2011/11/10 and made sales on the 12th and 15th.
I posted this article http://comluv.com/10-reasons-why-your-blog-is-dead-and-lifeless/ on the 2011/11/17 and made sales on the 17th, 19th, 20th, and 21st.
I posted this article http://comluv.com/5-horrible-website-hosting-failures/ on the 2011/11/25 and made sales on the 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th.
So what do you think?
Lets dig deeper into this example.
These results are from a direct experiment I performed using the Commentluv site, certain landing pages, and this product. There is a gap in sales between the 5/11 and the 12/11 because I did not have a guest post at that time. Hmm interesting!
This is not a one off thing for me as I have been guest posting on this site at least 4 times a month and the results are the same over and over.
The point is I found something that worked and I repeated it.
This was hard work and is nothing like getting $1000 in one hit, but I forgot to mention something important here. This sale has a recurring commission on it so I will get paid when the buyer renews their subscription. So how much are these sales worth now? I have no idea, but more than they appear to be right now.
Why am I NOT making money from my content?
I get asked this question all of the time!!!!!!
If you are not making money from content marketing then see my tips to improve your results.
Be a Copy Cat
The best advice is to study how someone else does this and copy them. That’s funny, I am telling you to be a copy cat, which is usually frowned upon. Oh who cares! Just copy the methods and make everything else your own. 🙂

The Anchor Text Says it All
This is where the anchor text of your link is very important, not just for SEO, but so people know what content to expect when clicking the link. You do not want accidental clicks, you want them to click on purpose. Accidental clicks just suck big time, even on Adsense ads as it lowers your CPC.
Anchor Text = Content = Product
When someone visits my website they are hopefully greeted with the information they were looking for, along with a great product that matches that content. There are NO pushy sales pitches on my sites because I provide a link to what people really need, therefore half of the buying decision is made already.
The Anchor text that makes up my links very briefly describes what you might see on the other side of the link. Take a look at my links in this article and see what you think they might lead to. I do not always get this method right but I try to be as close as possible without making the link to big.
SEO Hits your Target
Never ignore SEO as this will help the search engines and the humans know what your content is about. An article without keywords, a descriptive title, and so on, is neither here nor there. It does not make an impact if your content has no clear topic, good promotion and links pointing in, and social media shares.

Give Them a Reason
You must give people a reason to visit your website. You must have great contents or something of value that the person wants. It could be the answer to their problem, the information they want, or anything that makes them feel like they are getting true value.
So if you’re planing on guest posting, leave a link that suggests that you have something of value on the other side. Entice the reader to you and your content. But make sure you give what you promise!
But Always Take Them Somewhere!
When I guest post I always know where I want the potential visitor to land on my site. That landing page must have a goal. I never take someone somewhere for no reason at all and I generally do not take them to my home page. The page I take my visitors to is usually a lazer targeted topic that directly relates to the content they travelled from.
Change Until You Get it Right
I keep changing things until I find something that works. Don’t just stop dead in your tracks and give up! No way is that cool! Take action and try, look at the results, tweak, then try again.
Do it Again and Again!
This is a big mistake that people make, not repeating the successful actions that they have already made. I have no idea why people try to go and reinvent the wheel every time they want to make some money. There it is no secret to making money with your content, it is a very simple and clear way.
People laugh at me for continually guest posting on the same blogs, over and over. “This is a bad SEO strategy” they say. Well I am the one laughing here because not everything is done for SEO. Don’t get me wrong, I use SEO a hell of a lot, but that is not all that I use content marketing for. (As you can see)
Content Marketing Strategy – Use Your Content
Ok so you have a great blog with the best quality content but we all know that this is not the end of the story! You want to juice your content for all it is worth! That is why I use my own content, converted into different content types, to promote my content on my blog or website.
I often re-purpose content or re-use it. For example I might:
- Create a PDF to Give-away. Get the job done on Fiverr.con for $5.
- Create an eBook to Sell
- Create a Video or Podcast
Everything you do here contributes to some kind of promotion for your content, this is true, but they are also great money making ventures in their own right. Even a free PDF give-away can make you money, especially if you turn it into a viral marketing campaign.
I know everyone says guest posting is a great content marketing strategy but I have the proof!
