If you are signed up for my email list, you would probably know that I use Mailchimp as my choice for email management. They are fantastic and do almost everything for you, however they will not remove non opening optins from your list. This ugly task is up to you.

Why do you need to clean out your email list in Mailchimp?

Unless you have a small subscriber list, most email management companies cost money. Mailchimp is free for your first 500 subscribers but after that, if you want to continue the service, it will cost around $30 a month. When you gather more subscribers your account goes to the next level and it costs more. This is the same with Aweber and most other email management companies. This is why you cannot afford to waste your good emails on non opening email subscribers.

How to clean out your list in Mail chimp?

1. To clean up a list in Mailchimp, we will first have to go to view the list. Once you have signed in, click on the Lists tab.

2. Go to the list you want to clean. Click on View List.

3. Now click on The view all button. See screen shot below.

Now we will see a list of email addresses. We will need to sort these email out, or segment the list to see which ones need to be deleted.

How to view a segment of your email list in Mailchimp?

1. Now that you can see your full list, click on the segment link. See screen shot below.

2. Fill in the first condition. For example you could choose 1. Member rating 2. less than 3. 3 star.

3. Also make sure the first box is set to match all of the following.

4. To add another condition press on add condition.

5. When you are done you can click on view segment on the right.

6. Now the list will be smaller and follow your conditions you set.

How to delete the unwanted subscribers in bulk in Mailchimp?

1. Click on select visible as shown in the screen shot below. This will put a tick in the box of all emails visible on the page.

2. Now click on the arrow next to the person icon and a drop down menu will appear.

3. Choose delete from the menu. You will be asked to confirm.

You can also delete the email addresses individually by pressing the delete button shown on every line on the right hand side.

Webmasters often need to remove top menu page navigation to allow them not show a page to their website visitors. It just gives you a choice on which pages or category titles show in the top navigation menu.

What is Artisteer?

Web Design Generator – Artisteer<img src="http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=a2xSuxENxiI&bids=173903.10000001&type=3&subid=0" alt="Remove top menu page navigation"width="1" height="1" border="0" /> is a program that helps you create website themes and templates without having to know too much php or html. Here is a previous tutorial I posted about using Artisteer. You can watch a video on how to make a website template.

I like to design WordPress Themes with Artisteer and sometimes customizing the theme is a little bit different to other themes I have worked with. In this tutorial I am going to show you how to remove top menu page navigation links and leave only the ones you want. If you have a WordPress theme built using something other than Artisteer then please see this article Remove a page link from the top menu navigation in WordPress.

How to Remove top menu page navigation in an Artisteer WordPress theme?

Most of the time, when removing a page link from the navigation bar you have to edit the header.php file. However with an Artisteer WordPress Theme you need to edit the functions.php file. That is the only major difference. You will find the same or similar code to edit in there. Changing the header.php file in an Artisteer theme will not effect the top nav menu.

1. Click on the Appearance menu. Then choose Editor.

2. On the far right there will be a menu of pages with .php on the end. Find the Theme functions page (functions.php) and click on it.

3. In the Functions.php file look for anything that says list_pages under the heading of /* horizontal menu */

4. See the screen shot below. Click on it to enlarge.

<img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-384" title="wordpress-artisteer2" src="http://letsbuildwebsites.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/wordpress-artisteer2-300x234.png" alt="Remove top menu page navigation"width="300" height="234" />

5. Where I have circled the code it had this there: wp_list_pages(‘title_li=&sort_column=menu_order’);

6. I replaced it with: wp_list_pages(‘exclude=3962,4061,4125,3899&title_li=&sort_column=menu_order’);

The numbers that I added in (3962,4061,4125,3899) are page numbers that I want to exclude from the menu. Now this is how I remove top menu page navigation links in Artisteer.

Please note that Artisteer is updated often and this tutorial can become out of date. If you cannot find similar code to this then you might have an upgraded version.

If you are into WordPress websites you will most likely come across the problem of a page that you do not want showing appearing in the top navigation menu. Sometimes you can install a plugin to help customize the top navigation menu, however these plugins react differently for each WordPress theme. This is why I like to remove or exclude the pages I do not want in the top navigation menu manually. I do this by editing the php code in the header.php.

How to remove or exclude a page from the navigation menu in WordPress?

1. Sign in to your WordPress dashboard
2. Click on the appearance link in the side menu
3. Then choose editor
4. Some themes are different, however in this case I want to edit the header.php file
5. Click on header.php to edit
6. Find <?php wp_list_pages(‘title_li=’); ?> or something similar
7. Paste the new code in: <?php wp_list_pages(‘exclude=32&title_li=’); ?>
8. If you have menus with submenus than use this code: <?php wp_list_pages(‘depth=2,3,5&exclude= 2&title_li=’); ?>

Watch this video tutorial showing you how to add the code into the header.php file.

Here is another example of how I had to customize this code to get it to work.

$string = wp_list_pages(‘title_li=&echo=0&depth=1&exclude=3962,4779′);

As you can see it is very similar to the previous examples.
