There are a lot of different WordPress website hosting companies competing for your business. Each one of them seems to offer mostly the same features plus a few extras to separate themselves from their innumerable competitors.
Of course, in order to add those extra features without raising prices, each WordPress website hosting company needs to cut a few features. One key feature many hosting companies cut is their cPanel support, but cPanel support is one feature you should refuse to live without.
What Is cPanel?
Some readers may be shopping for their first WordPress website, so let us quickly explain what cPanel does.
Short for Control Panel, cPanel is the leading software that lets you configure your webserver from a private webpage that only you can access. Many settings on your webserver can be changed by simply filling out an HTML form, so you don’t need any advanced skills to run your own webserver.
Beyond making it possible for newbies and non-techies to run a full-feature website, here are five more reasons to use cPanel WordPress website hosting:
#1—The Sign Of A Good WordPress Webhost
Unless you’re a qualified server administer, changing most settings on your webserver is nearly impossible without cPanel, so any WordPress website hosting company that tries to sell you an account without cPanel support should be suspected of fraud. They’re setting you up for failure, taking your money without giving you the tools necessary to run your WordPress website.
Now, before you automatically reject hosting providers that don’t include cPanel support, note that there are other cPanel-like programs, such as DirectAdmin, Ensim, Parallels Pro, and Plesk. Any company offering any of these packages isn’t trying to cheat you out of your money.
There are also higher-end hosting companies that don’t offer cPanel to customers who provide their own system administration expertise. I use one of these companies, Linode, but I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone without a couple years experience using Linux.
A company that supports cPanel is helping you build great WordPress websites. Everyone else is just taking your money.
#2—Does cPanel Increase Your Uptime?
Did you know that cPanel only runs on three operating systems? They are Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS (a Red Hat compatible Linux), and FreeBSD.
These three operating systems (really two operating systems) are the most widely-used operating systems among webservers, with over 70% market share. They’re well tested and highly secure. When a problem does slip through, it gets fixed quickly because millions of users depend on these operating systems.
When you choose a cPanel WordPress website host, you guarantee that you get one of the best operating systems ever built.
#3—WordPress Website Installation Made Easy
Have you noticed that almost every cPanel-based WordPress website host advertises one-click installation of WordPress and other Web software? A plugin suite for cPanel makes this possible.
One-click installation is a wonderful thing. I’ve read the install instructions for WordPress and it takes a lot of effort to install WordPress without cPanel.

But one-click installation has another nice advantage—it makes it easy to experiment with new software. Think you might want to add a forum to your website? Just click a button and you have a Simple Machines Forum (SMF) all ready to go. What if you want to try different blog software? That’s just one-click away too. Need to upgrade your WordPress version? Another single click. Dozens of other applications can be installed and maintained just as easily.
#3—Easy WordPress Website Backups
With cPanel you have several options for backing up your data. And if you’re serious about your WordPress website, you should be serious about making backups.
Depending on how your WordPress website hosting plan is setup, you can make on-site or off-site backups from within cPanel. No matter how much you trust your hosting provider, I always suggest that you keep at least one copy of your website on your home or office computer just in case your hosting company suddenly goes out of business.
WordPress website hosting companies that don’t offer cPanel rarely offer backup solutions, leaving your data at risk. Worse, if you can’t backup your data, you may not be able to move your site to another hosting provider if you aren’t happy. You’re practically stuck with the WordPress website hosting provider you currently use.
When you see a hosting provider that supports cPanel, you know that you’ll always be in control of your data.
#5—Use cPanel To Take Your Site To The Next Level
If you’re just getting started with WordPress website hosting, you may think that all you need is a basic WordPress blog. But that’s rarely true for long.
At some point you’re going to want to add more features to your website. Maybe you want to add a second blog, or setup email filtering, or add a shopping cart for your ebooks.
No matter what it is you want to change, the easiest way to change it is using your trusty cPanel. If you don’t have access to cPanel, then you’re stuck with just WordPress.
Take a look at the WordPress websites you most admire. Do you see them using features not included the stock WordPress? It’s possible to run a successful website without using all the tools they use, but why chance it when so many affordable WordPress website hosting companies include cPanel support?
Most WordPress website hosting companies use cPanel for a good reason, so maybe you should use it too.
Cpanel is easy to handle in wordpress. I appreciate your share. more than that wordpress is user friendly. control panel in wordpress is first hard for me to use, once i practice to cpanel it is very easy to use.

Having experience with both C-panel hosting and dedicated server, I can say that C panel is really much easier to use, but hte dedicated server gives you better speed and more security since its fully yours
Absolutely. Cpanel is a must. I wouldn’t be able to live without it! My best experience has been with HostGator….worse has been Godaddy or OneandOne.

Hey Mitz,
i’m not sure how well you are familiar with Cpanel blogging options,
but i would like to ask.
i usually use Arvixe, and i noticed inside the wizard you have the options to automatically install many different blogs not just WordPress, however all the blogs are PHP based,
The problem is i’m looking to incorporate a blog inside of an existing website that runs of Microsoft technology (Asp .net) ,
all the blogs including WordPress are not compatible :s
can i find what am i looking for on Cpanel ?? or can you please point me to another hosting maybe, that can fix this ?
Many thanks and Best wishes!

Hi,
Cpanel software makes my webmaster life a lot easier by providing several addons to automate various processes like Installations, Cron jobs, e.t.c
Although I used to agree to this fact, I’ve changed my decision over time. cPanel although is easy and feature rich, it does not provide any way to separate out the other websites hosted on the same account. When I was hacked due to a vulnerability, all of my other domains files were cleared by the hacker by using a shell script.
Dreamhost has saved me now as they have a better panel which is not cpanel. I can assign different user to different accounts and they cannot peek into other accounts just like the way it happens on cPanel.
While I do agree that cPanel is good for the beginners, but if a web-host has one-click WordPress install, it all becomes easy. It isn’t hard to backup the blog using a plugin afterwards.

Sure, cPanel is a standard. Though there are many more things behind cPanel, web server configuration and PHP settings behind. Hosting might be unsuitable even with cPanel, if Apache configuration is mod_php for example or doesn’t support some modules.
Hi Mitz,
Honestly I rarely check on cpanel, I’m not really sure about what we can do through it. Thanks for making me understand better about cpanel

Yes, Cpanel is not looked upon as an important feature while buying hosting server. Thanks for the insights on that feature..
Suggestion -Point #3 (Numbering) in above post is repeated twice. It should have #4 instead of #3.
